Slick calm water, cool air temps, and good moving gin clear water set the stage for a whole lotta good vibes as we pushed off from the dock today. While running to our fist area of the day I always find the hardest part of the trip being passing so many good looking spots and deciding which of the 10 voices in my head to listen to. Well today the voices just would not let me pass by one of my favorite Springtime flats and I am glad I listened. We quietly slipped onto the flat and immediately I saw a Bass rise and roll sipping a shrimp off the surface. We worked over to the shallowest area on the flat and with a well placed fly we had our first bite of the day. 2 casts later we had the same results and as the saying goes 3 is the charm as my client laid the fly just up current in 8" of water. No sooner did the fly hit the water then we were hooked up and a few minutes later we had it out of the boat with a very nice 25" bass. With optimism high we ran to stay in front of the action, or so we thought. The sun got high fast and a lot of cloudy water moved in and the action became scarce for the remainder of the trip. We managed to pluck 2 more Bass in the 17"-20" range along with a good amount of short strikes but other than that things got quiet.
